there are different types of death - some things are so mature and full that they can be canonized into permanence, whereas other things are abandoned and forgotten and left behind.

or perhaps there could be a Theme / mods which allows the most active links to be a brighter color and the less active links to be a darker color
Perhaps active objects could glow brightly, higher contrast against the background color. While Dead objects could be more neutral, subtle, grayish.
