MediaWiki is clunky and complex to set up, you must host it unless you use Miraheze or some other wiki farm which takes care of hosting for you. Each hosted MediaWiki instance is one Group while WeWrite aims to allow many communities to flourish in their own lanes, allowing for cross-pollination and exchange of ideas
